Don't forget to check your windshield wipers. Check to see if
the blades are flexible and not cracking or checked. If the last
time it rained you had a lot of trouble with them streaking to
where you couldn't see clearly, it's time to replace them.
Usually a good set of blade refills is all you need and you
save money over buying the whole arm.

A few quick and basic checks you can make to take care of your car
Tire Pressure and tread: To check your tire pressure use a gauge you can purchase at most any parts store
or discount store. Check the pressure when the tires have set for a while and are cool to the touch. If you
check them shortly after driving you will not get an accurate reading because of heat expansion in the tires.
Your tire pressure should be set to the manufacturers recommendations which is written on the side of the tire
itself, look for( tire PSI 30 - 35 ) or ( max pressure 30 - 35 lbs ) or similar readings and be sure you adjust for
load rating which is if you are towing a trailer or have a trunk loaded very heavily. These adjustments make a
big difference in the life of the tire and your fuel mileage. Tread depth should be at a very minimum up to
Lincolns head when you insert a penny into the tire tread head first. If less than this have your tires checked by
a professional or replace them.
Oil level: After your engine has been shut down for at least 10 minutes pull the dip stick out, wipe it off with a
rag and reinsert it fully. Pull it back out and check to see where the level is, it should be between the two lines
marked full: and low: or similar. If it seems low, check with someone qualified to be sure because if you overfill
on oil you can cause severe damage to your engine. Also be sure vehicle is setting basically level because an
incline can make your readings off quiet a bit.
Belts: Find an area where you can rotate your belt slightly to see the back side of it, look to see if it appears to
have any small cracks, bits missing, or is severely checked, if so you need to consider replacing the belt as this
is your early warning sign that the belt is likely to break. Check with someone qualified to determine if your
belts are in need of replacement.
Brake fluid, anti freeze, windshield washer fluid: Nowadays most have a opaque container that you can
see into with level indicators on the sides. Refer to owners manual or qualified person to show you exactly
where your full limits are and how to refill them. You can create some problems if you make mistakes especially
with your brake fluid, example the wrong fluid or slight moisture in your container can lead to brake system
failure.
